How do I assign a task, accept it or say "Can't do it"?

Pick a teammate in the task's Assignee. They get a notice and click Accept, or Can't do it to send it back with a reason.

Updated October 22, 2026

Open the task and pick a teammate in Assignee. They get a notice that you gave them the task. On the task they click Accept, or Can't do it to send it back to you with a reason.

Also called: give a task, delegate, assign to a teammate, decline a task, refuse, assigner une tâche, déléguer, accepter, pas possible

Step 1: Give the task to a teammate

Open the task from Tasks. In the panel on the right, pick the person in Assignee. It saves right away. When you add a task, you can also type @ and their first name, like "@Tom".

Click: Tasks › the task › Assignee

Step 2: Accept a task you were given

When someone gives you a task, you get a notification. Open the task: at the top you see "…gave you this task." Click Accept. You see Task accepted.

Click: Accept

Step 3: Or say you can't do it

Click Can't do it. Under Why?, pick No time, Not my specialty, I need more info, Already done or Other. Under Suggest another date, pick a day if you like. Add a word for them (with Other, that word is the reason).

Click: Can't do it › a reason

Step 4: Send your answer

Click Notify… with their name. The task goes back to them right away, with your answer in its Activity, and they get a notification. You see Answer sent to….

Click: Notify…

Good to know

  • Your answer goes out at once, so there's no Undo after Accept or Can't do it.

  • The task goes back to whoever gave it to you, or to the owner if nobody did.

  • Assignee shows when your team has more than one person.

  • In All, the Assignee filter shows one person's tasks.

  • You can ask Ask Alori: "give the furnace check to Tom".

If it doesn't work

  • "Only the person it's given to can answer." Only the assignee sees Accept and Can't do it.

  • "Nobody to send it back to: it's yours." You gave it to yourself, or you're the owner. Change the Assignee instead.

  • A teammate isn't in the list. Invite them to your team first.
