How do I start rows from a template?

Click the arrow beside New, pick New template, fill it in, then pick it from the same arrow to start a row with those values and that text.

Updated October 26, 2026

A template is a row you fill in once, like a "Furnace visit" with its status and checklist. Pick it from the arrow beside New and each new row starts as a copy. You can also lock a database so its columns and views stay as they are.

Also called: row template, page template, default values, lock database, modèle, verrouiller.

Step 1: Make a template

Click the arrow beside the blue New button, then New template. Give it a name, set its values and write its text. The page says "You're editing a template of" your database, so you know it's not a real row.

Click: New arrow › New template

Step 2: Start a row from it

Click the arrow beside New and pick the template. The new row gets its values and text. Pick Empty page for a blank row. To change a template, point at it and click the pencil (Edit template).

Click: New arrow › your template

Step 3: Make it the view's default

Open the sliders button and pick the template under Default for this view. Then New and + New in that view start from it.

Click: sliders button › Default for this view

Step 4: Lock the database

Open the sliders button and tick Lock database. Nobody can change its columns or views until someone who can edit it unlocks it. Rows can still be added and changed.

Click: sliders button › Lock database

If it doesn't work

  • "This database is locked. Unlock it in the view's options to change its properties or views.": untick Lock database in the sliders button.

  • Default for this view is missing: the database has no template yet. Make one first.

  • A template doesn't show in the table: templates stay out of views, search and counts on purpose.
